Gift Guide: Best Toys for a 1-Year-Old
/
We love open-ended toys in our house and try to invest in toys that will grow with our kids developmentally and encourage them to use their imagination as much as possible. We opt for wood toys or eco-friendly options when possible. Here are some of our favorite blocks, educational toys, and gifts for one-year-olds. Plus, most of them are available on Amazon Prime so you can still get them delivered by Christmas!
Natural Block Set
This gigantic natural block set is a staple in our playroom and is easily compatible with so many other toys and sets. Fantastic for building towers, towns, and more.
ABC Blocks
This is my go-to birthday present for kids on their first birthday. The beautiful heirloom blocks from Uncle Goose not only have the alphabet, but numbers and animals as well. They’re great for building, stacking, learning and open-ended play. Also available in a wide range of languages.
Geometric Sorter
This geometric sorter is perfect for learning shapes, colors, numbers and more. Great for practicing fine motor skills and stimulating imaginative play.
Wood Rainbow
Not only is this rainbow completely gorgeous, but it is so fun and versatile for kids. Get ready for great open-ended play as they use the rainbow arches to stack, arrange, and build all kids of interesting shapes and structures.
Magnetic Tiles
These magnetic tiles are great for open-ended play, sensory activities, and building. If you’re looking for a more eco alternative, Earthtiles are a fantastic wooden version of a similar item.
Personalized Armchair
These armchairs are the perfect perch for toddlers – comfortable, portable, and available in a variety of colors and fabrics.
Wood Walker
Walkers are great for this age as 1-year-olds are gaining their footing and starting to walk. This one is especially great as it doubles as a busy board with plenty of fun activities to practice fine motor skills and keep them entertained.
Stacking Cups
It seems crazy how these simple cups can keep kids busy for HOURS. I’m a firm believer in the fact that sometimes the more simple the toy, the more entertaining it is, and that’s definitely the case with these cups that are fun for stacking, arranging, sensory bins, water play, and more. They’re portable enough to throw in the diaper bag or to use for travel. This set is particularly great because it’s more eco-friendly, made from plants.
Magnetic Wood Blocks
We love Tegu in our house and there are so many different sets and colors to choose from small travel sizes to large comprehensive sets—all compatible together. These high-quality magnetic blocks are great for imaginative building and play to keep that little one busy for hours on end.
Textured Balls
These balls have been a favorite in our house for years and they’re particularly great for babies and young toddlers who are just exploring different textures and colors.
Geometric Stacker
Stackers are a great developmental toy and this is fantastic stacker with three different shape stacks in rainbow colors. So many open opportunities to learn and explore.
Wooden Puzzle
Chunky puzzles are perfect at this age and this one is super fun for toddlers with the layered shapes and animal motif. Sure to be a favorite!
Sorting Cube
This classic toy is great for problem solving, learning shapes and colors, and independent play. Will keep little ones busy for long stretches of time.
